Oldham live on telly (again)

After the live Carling Cup tie against Spurs, Athletic's first round encounter with Thurrock will be shown live on the BBC. The match has therefore been moved to November 14th, rather than the 13th as was originally thought. Kick-off will be at 2pm. This should give Oldham another welcome windfall of £75, 000.

New back-up goalie Bertrand Bossu will be eligable to appear in the cup game against the Conference South side, but Aaron Wilbraham will not. One of the terms of his loan deal from Hull was that he must not appear in any Cup games.

Brian Talbot understated the task in front of Latics by describing it as "a tie you'd like to think we can win". Hopefully so, seeing as Oldham are three divisions higher in the football pyramid than the Essex outfit.

It is likely that TV executives picked this game to show live because they thought that there was a chance of an upset. I certainly hope not. At the very least, unlike in their last televised encounter, Oldham should not lose 6-0...
