Paul Warne could be in line for a two week fine

Paul Warne could be in line for a two week fine after being shown a red card in a tussle with Andy Holdsworth on Saturday. Holdsworth needed treatment after both men went for a high ball and the referee decided that Warne led with his elbow in the challenge. After the game Warne told Ronnie Moore that he didn't do anything deliberately.

Moore said, "I don't know whether he caught him enough to knock him out, but when the lad did get up he was feeling his knee and not his head. That astounded me. Paul isn’t a malicious type of guy, and he insists he didn’t deliberately hit their player. If he did, he deserved to be sent off and he will be fined. I’ll decide what action to take after I have looked at the video. He would probably lose a week’s wages, but that would be doubled if I thought the incident warranted it. I can’t comment any more until I’ve seen it again, although it’s fair to say the referee didn’t have the best of afternoons. He sent off one of our players but did nothing at the other end when Rob Scott got hammered off the ball. The referee was suckered by one or two things and the Huddersfield number two did well with his diving because he also earned a few bookings for us.”

Warne will now serve an automatic three-match ban for violent conduct which means that he will miss Saturday's visit to Gillingham and the games against Bournemouth and Port Vale.
