Rugby to return to Boundary Park

Boundary Park will again become the home of Oldham Rugby from the start of the new season in January. Oldham Council has worked with both clubs to secure the deal. Athletic will receive a cash boost as the Council will provide
sponsorship to the club and meet the rental costs of the stadium for Oldham Athletic for a full year.

Councillor David Jones of the Opposition said, “This is about two important assets and institutions of Borough life with long traditions and loyal followings involving a significant part of Oldham's population. It is also important to
remember that at a national level the two clubs remain our most significant marketing and promotional assets. Therefore, the Council has done the right thing in brokering a deal which helps to ensure the future security of both
Oldham Athletic and Oldham Rugby. Partnership working at political and other levels has made this possible.”

Christopher Hamilton, the Chairman of Oldham Rugby said, “We have made no secret of the fact that playing outside the Borough has cost the club a lot of money. With this new agreement in place we have for the first time since we
formed the club in 1997 got security as we made our plans to move the club forward. Knowing that our playing venue is secure on an ongoing basis is a massive fillip for the club and for everybody connected with rugby league in the
town. Everything revolves around being able to play in the town we represent and we are delighted to be back in Oldham. We are looking forward to playing in National League One which will be a very competitive division and hope that fans will turn out in force to support the club and the team in what we hope is going to be a successful season. We would like to formally place on record our appreciation for the help and assistance of Oldham Council in bringing this matter to a satisfactory conclusion and hope that this will be the launch of a bright future for the club and its supporters.”

Alan Hardy, speaking for Athletic commented, “In finalising this tri-party arrangement it has helped Oldham Athletic move a step closer to the Club's rescue plan, raising additional revenue between now and the end of the current
football season. At the same time the two year agreement allows all three parties to consider the way forward in forming a Stadium Company to be responsible for the running of Boundary Park and the possible redevelopment of
the stadium. However, this additional revenue only accounts for a small percentage of the £2 million required and it is vital that Oldham Athletic continues to make savings and raise additional revenue wherever possible and in particular through our Sponsor a Seat campaign.”
