Season ticket increases will result in more transfer money

Simon Corney has revealed that the rise in season ticket prices will result in John Sheridan having more money to play with in the transfer market. Corney told the Oldham Chronicle, "We decided on a rise in season-ticket prices, so the money available to John will reflect that increase. It will be flexible, rather than sticking to a fixed figure, and we'll play it by ear by working to the manager's needs. We did reduce the budget last summer, but we actually ended up spending more on players than in the previous season. Money had been kept in reserve for the second half of the season, which was when we brought in people like Sean Gregan, Alan Blayney and Luigi Glombard."

"Unfortunately we fell just short of promotion, and perhaps it would have helped if we had signed a new striker during the transfer window in January, funds were available. We were delighted to reach the play-offs, but maybe we should try to attract a better quality of player and spend our money a bit more wisely."

Maybe the statement is slightly critical of the job that John Sheridan has done, a point mentioned many times by the fans. In the end, the season has been a great success. Sheridan has confessed that he could write a book on what he has learned as a manager this season. This is a positive sign that the manager is learning. The fans are happy with what has been achieved, they are happy with the success that Shez has brought this season, they are happy with the product on the field and they are full of confidence for the coming season. Roll on next season....it's going to be another roller coaster.
