The Latics are included in Oldham’s masterplan for radical overhaul. The consultants behind the ‘Thought Bubble’ say they aim to be imaginative but practical in their attempt to bring to life many places across the borough. The Latics could be used to create jobs, new facilities and services and it is suggested that plots could be developed as part of the stadium complex. Uses could include bars, restaurants, a conference centre, hotel or hostel, indoor and outdoor sports, education, offices and retail music events.

It is also hoped to attract local people by getting them involved so that they can see the benefits of the expansion. It will need better access from main roads and needs to be co-ordinated with the Latics plans for a new 8,000-seat stand. A feasibility study for development potential is likely to be commissioned.
